This childrens book is an excellent introduction into the social and cultural norms of 19th century America and the limitations placed upon women.
It tells the story of the first women to reject the uncomfortable and restrictive clothes society encouraged them to wear and how they defied convention to travel around America and promote the women s rights movement Very simply written without too much detail and bright interesting pictures it sums up very clearly some of the reasons why women chose to stand up and speak out I learnt from this book as well, I was familiar with the British suffrage movement but this book enlightened me on some of the main players from America.
I m now looking out for similar books on the British fight for the vote and other aspects of women s history.
An excellent and age appropriate introduction for 5 10 year olds.
