5 stars rounded up to 4I liked the book a lot I see that many consider it a YA book If this is supposed to define the main characters, than this is correct But if it s supposed to define the audience, then I am not so sure obviously YA can read it, but there is no problem reading it for not so young adults.
So, again, I liked the book.
The writing is good, the way you get to know and with little snippets here and there making the plot denser, the way the characters are slowly developed into full personalities with nice and not so nice sides.
I though the first few chapters were maybe a tad repetitive lots of hide and chase , but not to the point of wanting to put the book down.
I will definitely be reading 2 In Michelle Gagnons Debut YA Thriller, Dont Turn Around, Computer Hacker Noa Torson Is As Smart, Tough, And Complex As The Girl With The Dragon Tattoos Lisbeth SalanderThe First In A Trilogy, Dont Turn Arounds Intricate Plot And Heart Pounding Action Will Leave Readers Desperate For Book TwoSixteen Year Old Noa Has Been A Victim Of The System Ever Since Her Parents Died Now Living Off The Grid And Trusting No One, She Uses Her Hacking Skills To Stay Anonymous And Alone But When She Wakes Up On A Table In A Warehouse With An IV In Her Arm And No Memory Of How She Got There, Noa Starts To Wish She Had Someone On Her SideEnter Peter Gregory A Rich Kid And The Leader Of A Hacker Alliance, Peter Needs People With Noas Talents On His Team Especially After A Shady Corporation Threatens His Life In No Uncertain Terms But What Noa And Peter Dont Realize Is That Noa Holds The Key To A Terrible Secret, And There Are Those Whod Stop At Nothing To Silence Her For Good Feels like a totally different genre Outside the usual storyline Computers are very much a young persons game and a mystery to me but made believable in the way this book is written Having read this first book and sitting and thinking about it I do wonder if this goes on with our lost children After all who knows where they are, what is happening to them and who cares I m looking forward to the next book, but still troubled by this storyline
Noa wakes up in a facility with a big long scar on her chest and once she realizes she s being held prisoner in the city of Boston she escapes her tormentors Running into fellow teenager and hacker Peter, they uncover a conspiracy so great that even help from the FBI is useless.
Noa s character is fiercely sharp and intelligent, and I can honestly say I love her character She s a survivor who took matters in her own hands and started to teach herself how to hack into systems so she can survive on her own Noa isn t as hard and as cold as she seems, because you are privy to her vulnerable sensitive side in bits and pieces.
Then there s Peter who grew up in an affluent neighbourhood and gas had every advantage yet he his parents ignore him and bas This novel has been called The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo for teens , and there are some important points of comparison and other important differences and some of the differences make Don t Turn Around better Gagnon s principal protagonist, Noa, is similar to Larsson s heroine in that she is a victim of the foster care system and also tough, pretty and socially awkward, although softer and human and believable than Larsson s character Noa is also an expert hacker and in this novel teams up with fellow hacker Peter Peter comes from a wealthy although loveless family and there are some excellent observations both on his family dynamic and, in the Noa Peter relationship, the empathy and impossibility of empathy that can exist across the class divide The bad guys are the amoral corporate entities who believe that their power gives them the right to rid
