✓ Elephant Journey: The True Story of Three Zoo Elephants and their Rescue from Captivity ☆ Download by ↠´ Rob Laidlaw This is one of my favorite children s books of all time Rob Laidlaw shares the amazing story and adventure that resulted in three African elephants finding retirement away from the confines of a small zoo enclosure in an inhospitable climate Not only is it a wonderful read this book also provides information and facts about elephants so that children can gain a greater understanding about the social and physical needs of these sentient beings Complemented by the beautiful artwork by Brian Deines this is a book that should be found on every child s bookshelf.
Excellent and true story about how three elephants who were languishing at the Toronto Zoo in Canada were finally freed to a sanctuary in Northern California Anyone who loves animals and does not want them to suffer in cruel zoo captivity will especially love this story and will learn a lot about elephants and compassionate humans by reading this book The captivity and experimental breeding of elephants in all zoos and the circus must end.
I absolutely adore this book When I used to visit the Toronto zoo, the welfare of the elephants used to concern me During the winter it was apparent they suffered from the cold climate and their confined concrete enclosure was very small I could tell their health was failing I was delighted when they were released from captivity and I followed their progress to the PAWS Elephant Sanctuary in California Rob Laidlaw accurately depicts that journey in his children s book, Elephant Journey, which is beautifully illustrated by Brian Deines I sent my cousin a copy of the book, which she read to her children ages 5 and 8 Both children had seen the elephants in the Toronto Zoo and felt they had a vested interest in them They were completely engaged in the book and the photos it is now their favorite bed time book Not only are they delighted that the elephants are I love this book It is written in a way that can be enjoyed by all ages I plan to read it to my future grandkids to explain why we do not go to zoos The illustrations are beautifully done The section with the real photos and the facts about what it took to get these 3 elephants from the Toronto Zoo to the PAWS sanctuary in California, made me feel as if I were there It gives me hope for other captive elephants to be granted retirement to sanctuary, to feel soft ground and expansive acres to roam, and elephants to form family units Great coffee table book as well.

Rob Laidlaw has many good stories to tell, and this is one of the most engaging and significant of them all It reveals bigotry and selfishness in the zoo world, but importantly it also highlights the devotion and commitment of good people to doing honorable and worthwhile things to aid and improve the life for captive elephants Laidlaw has always had a voice for those unable to speak for themselves.
There is no better person to write a book about these elephants than Rob Laidlaw, the Director and founder of Zoocheck Thanks to the hard work of Zoocheck workers these former zoo elephants were moved successfully to the PAWS Sanctuary, a feat that many large zoos are unable to match My hope for this fine book for younger readers is that our next generation will no longer believe that imprisoning animals for human interest and entertainment is morally acceptable books like Black Beauty helped to develop empathy and compassion in the young readers of previous generations and books like this will surely help to develop compassion for animals in today s younger readers as well This is a moving book from start to fi In , People Across North America Were Riveted By The Story Of Toka, Thika, And Iringa, The Last Three Elephants At The Zoo In Toronto, Ontario Lonely For A Larger Herd, Sick From The Cold Climate, And Weak From Standing For Long Days In A Too Small Concrete Enclosure, The Elephants Desperately Needed A Change The Zoo And Animal Activists Agreed That They Should Be Moved To A Healthier Home, But The Best Optionthe Performing Animal Welfare Society PAWS Sanctuary In Distant Californiaseemed Like An Impossible DreamIn Elephant Journey, Leading Activist And Award Winning Author Rob Laidlaw Unfolds The Journey Of How That Impossible Dream Was Realized In Clear, Straightforward Prose, He Describes The Elephants Experiences On The Journey Of Three Days And , Kilometers That Brought Them To The Sanctuary At Last Celebrated Illustrator Brian Deines Oil Paintings, Based On Actual Footage Of The Trip, Provide An Intimate Window Into The Experiences Of Toka, Thika, And Iringa As They Braved Their Long Road To A New Life Extensive Back Matter Includes An Index, Photographs, And Further Information About This Miraculous Elephant Journey A great book for kids to learn about how we should treat these intelligent, far ranging animals who have found themselves suffering in zoo confinement sanctuary anything less diminishes our humanity.
