This was fairly short a teaser for the later novels I believe but was still enjoyable in its own right Set in Medieval Wales it follows Gwen the titular character who must save her father from a charge of murder Some of the laws and traditions of Wales and the Norman lords appear, albeit with not a great deal of detail but it is a short book The author covers a little in an interesting appendix.
The character of Gwen is interesting, for although Wales had equality for women at that time she is still seen as lesser by then men, but steps up and shows them what she can do Solving the murder they cannot or will not A love interest is mentioned, but he is absent in the book, and enough of a teaser is given that the reader is intrigued to find out if they are reunited in later books Other characters mentioned are base I love medieval mysteries I have thoroughly enjoyed the Bard s daughter It is well written and easy to read Perhaps too easy, it is true and the story could have done with a little depth as this is supposed to be a prequel to the Gareth and Gwen Mysteries I did not feel it was a prequel at all because the author gave only background information for the characters as if the reader already knew them For me, the prequel would have been a much longer book and not necessarily set as a mystery Gareth s and Gween s pasts are full of up and downs, their characters are deep and you cannot help to love them both What I appreciated in this book is that Gareth is not too good to be true and Gwen is a strong stable heroine but I really liked this novel, its full of history and intrigue, mystery and suspense together with a touch of the ancient past history It was my first time of reading it, bit difficult to get into at first but after you get the drift it becomes really good and you cant wait to finish it just to see who really did commit the murders.
Since I had my Kindle at Christmas, I ve read loads of different books and authors When I read the first book of a series, if it s good I ll read whatever is available on Kindle.
I love history and it s good when it s wrapped around a good book with strong characters The Bard s Daughter was a delight to read, very good.
Sarah Woodbury kept me enthralled with this story and I ordered The Good Knight immediately Romance and war do not usually read well but this author knew how much of each subject to write about The welsh names intrigued me and I found that reading them I could actually speak with that musical accent A good read with to follow.
The story unfolded in an unexpected manner and was told in a way that had you hunting for the solution of the mystery A thoroughly enjoyable read I shall be looking for books by the same author.
Sarah Woodbury always delivers Loved it This was just a taster but enough to make me want to carry on and read the rest of the series As with The Good Knight I read it in a few days as opposed to my normal few weeks,
