Trailer Ï Whistler PDF by ã Frances Spalding The Series Has Always Been Highly Regarded For Its Insight And Authority, Providing An Invaluable Introduction To Key Artists And Movements In Art History Each Volume Contains An Introductory Essay, Forty Eight Full Page Colour Plates, Accompanied By Extensive Notes, And Numerous Comparative Illustrations In Colour Or Black And White

This review is SPECIFICALLY for the 1979 hardback edition of this book.
This volume was well received when it was first published Frances Spalding is a respected and insightful art historian and the text is certainly one of the best short monographs on the artist.
Be aware, however, that this original edition only runs to 80 pages, has 71 illustrations and only 28 in colour few are full page and a couple are actually comparison illustrations of other artist s work The reproduction quality is also a little suspect, not quite up to Phaidon s current standard.
This is a decent enough book if you re only looking for a research text, worth getting second hand for that purpose For a better illustrated volume the 1994 paperback edition is expanded,
